About me: I am 75 years of age, married with 5 adult children and my ultimate aim is to revolutionize lawn bowls by using Protractor Mats together with a toe mark and a heel mark on the sole facing of your shoe enabling you to bowl by angles rather than the old fashion method of Visualization .I feel the sport is in badly need of a heart transplant to attract new younger members who easily be taught to bowls with accuracy and precision instead of being treated as stale bottles .I am confident of success but my biggest problem is getting officialdom on side.May they Rest in Peace .Amen. I cycle 20km. every week day and during my working life was a fitter and turner .I am interested in the bloodlines of the thoroughbred and the American Trotter and Pacer .Don't worry I can do it I have not worked 14 years for nothing,

Hi sjp, 2012 AO has come and gone .Some squad members performed other not up to their own ambitions .Lucky NZ was not well represented other wise results could have been worst.A revolution in elite coaching is the No 1 requestite. Players must be taught how to adjust to suit the conditions .Current coaching methods do allow for this..Why because when a bowler steps onto the mat he /she imagines there is only centre line on the mat top to bottom and you must adjust left and right .. Wrong there is a better way ,players and coaches are not prepared to listen. By using shoe marks , toe and heel and a nominated line adjustment is easy.No 1 problem the visualization method is dead and buried.. Choice , change or suffer poor national performance in Six Natios and 2012 World Championships..The need for change is because other nations have been taught our way and have advanced further..One thing that has not changed is the draw bowl is paramount.Solution use the Rob Judson 40 Bowls Test where.

Thanks Tony Penfold SA. for your reply..If your club mat is the Henselite Mat with cut out diamonds all the better.Measure your shoe length in MM and this is what you allow 229 mm L 4 MM. per deg. 258 MM. L 4.5 MM per deg. 286.5 MM. 5 mm. per deg .315 mm L 5.5 MM per deg. 344 mm L 6mm. per DEG .I say print out and study technique on my home page Mat BQ 1 you can't go wrong . The secret is in the delivery , your delivery must be fluent and rthythmical , position your right knee in the middle of your left calf muscle , stay down 5-7 sec. , look about 3/4 along aiming line ,select a stare point about 4m from the mat slightly accentuate your delivery and walk forward off the mat . Adjust with your toe mark if your green is not right . On a average day with a cross wind expect 2 deg .variation between fore and backhand . ,sometimes they are equal.Nothing has changed there are still only 2 variiables in bowls weight and green , because you have a handle on green [angles] weight is the mos

Thanks Morrie. I shall take this to my Club and suggest it. So many people have problems with their foot settings on the mat. Great invention .

Hi Tony Penfold SA I welcome you as a friend .There are no mats for sale . I suggest you make a cardboard template of your bowls shoes, place a toe mark and a heel mark on your bowls shoes and use your cllub mat and the protractor principle . Measure your shoe length in mm.For template at 15 degrees use these 2 measurements on a A4 sheet for max L 307 mm if longer use 2 sheets overlapping by 50 mm. Rule a centre line length ways .Place a mark 80mm each side of line on edge of sheet . Next put a mark 11 3/4 inches down centre line ,rule lines to 80 mm marks and place marks of your shoe length on the 2 lines rule across and trim alround.Take this template to your club mat and place apex on assumed centre line and find best position for your toe mark so each time you go to this 15 deg mark and adjust from there . Allow 5mm. for each deg..Short end 1 deg .5 m 20 in. Med end .6 m 24 in. Lend .7 m 28 in. Keep heel mark on centre at all time. Depending on green speed and climate cond .find yo
