Stage and Sport ground for first ever YMCA Beach Basketball and perhaps the first of such happening in Aruba History.
The Beach Basketball happening turned-out to be most interested and fun thing of the year. Beyond everyones expectation – The Beach Basketball was a great past time leisure – And, something that we would really like to do again.
No dribbling, somehow dribbling a basketball in the white sand doesn’t really make you look so cool any more – But, it does promote and help develop your passing and moving with our the ball skills.
For team Team Spirit building this is a great work out and we had lots of laughs and fun.
Joke of the day - “Where is the pijl” - Let me translate “pijl” for our non Dutch speaking/reading audience - That mean arrow – For the basketball pros and aficionados – the ball position indicator. After calling the first jump ball in the game – it was obvious that we need forgot some the basic accessories equipment that is associated with certain rules.
We had did some rules in place for this Beach Basketball. But, we also knew that we had to get creative and come up with new rules – for those that weren’t covered while the game was going on. Hey, this was the first beach basketball ....beside that and we were there mostly for fun, sun and the amenities that come with the beach. Well our beach!! Whitesand, blue clear skies, crystal clear water - and no sharks. So, we didn’t all the normal other things one normally would do at the beach – take a swim, run, loaf around, eat your belly full, drink (no alcohol) and you have fun with your friends.
In all this outdoor happening gave us the opportunity to appreciate some of the things that we tend to disregard or take for granted year round. Our Aruba!
Number one on that appreciation list is our beautiful beach and perfect outdoor weather! And, after that, I guess it will be the people – my people – mainly consisting the Arubans; basketball players, coaches parents and supporters.
Thanking God - for making that day a very special and enjoyable memorable happening for me and everyone else.
Aruba, one sunny happy island in the Caribbean.
