Coach Profile

David Herbert

David Herbert joins the West Coast Waves as head coach for their inaugural season under the new Waves banner in 2010/11.

He brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge, having coached in the WNBL for a number of seasons.

He was the first head coach of the Townsville Fire in 2001/02, a position he held for six years. In only his second season as head coach, Herbert led the Townsville Fire all the way to the preliminary final in 2002/03 after finishing the season second on the ladder. He was named Coach of the Year in the same season.

He understands what it’s like to helm a new team, something that puts him in good stead for the new Waves group.

Before his appointment in Townsville, Herbert also worked as an assistant coach with the Dandenong Rangers for two years.

He is the High Performance Coach for Western Australia Basketball, a role that he will continue as a strategy to ensure and maintain a clear pathway for promising Western Australian basketballers into the top level. His success in this role played a major part in his current appointment.

He takes on the role with the goal of very quick success in season 2010/11.
