JD doing well after operations

Tuesday, 18th November, 2008

As many of you would know, WheelKings guard Jeremy Doyle has been in hospital for 3 weeks after undergoing 2 operations to strengthen his spinal column. He is now doing well but it has been a lot more complicated than expected.

JD went into Prince of Wales Hospital on 27th October and the first operation involved the replacement of the rods in his back that were put there when he was a youngster. He also had the L4 to T10 vertebrae fused. It took 9 and a half hours! Unfortunately, the operation was not totally successful as apparently the new rods were placed too high and they bent under the forces of natural body leverage (such as sitting up).

While recovering from the surgery, a second operation was scheduled for 10th November to insert new rods. This operation was comparatively quick at 7 hours! So far, things look good. JD is going to need a couple of weeks for healing and then will wear a back brace for 2 months. He hopes to get out of hospital in the next 10 days or so, and he should be back working on his game in no time at all. JD says he'll be able to train with the brace on - you've got to love the commitment!

Although we all know being in hospital is no fun, Jeremy has been surrounded by friends and family throughout his stay. He's also had plenty of well-wishers get in touch and all the WheelKings are looking forward to him getting back on court and being even more of a jet than before.
