Tina wins same Paralympic Medal twice!

Friday, 21st November, 2008

In a feelgood story that doesn't happen too often these days, WheelKings and Gliders guard Tina McKenzie had her missing Beijing bronze medal returned.

The original story of the missing medal appeared in the Sydney Daily Telegraph and can be seen on Basketball Australia's website at http://www.basketball.net.au/fs_newsitem.asp?id=81525&orgID=1&Oname=BA&O1c=8&O10c=3

After several weeks of hoping that someone would come forward, Tina really thought she had little chance of ever seeing the medal again. Then on a recent trip to Melbourne, she received a call from a friend who had gone to Tina's Sydney home to check for mail. The medal was mysteriously sitting there in the letterbox!

Someone had anonymously returned the medal while Tina was away and of course she was a little curious as to what had happened. However, Tina is pretty much resigned to never finding out where her medal went for a depressingly long 4 weeks.

Tina joked that the medal is now in a bank vault but added, "I'm very grateful that someone had a turn of conscience and put things right. The medal just means so much to me."
