International Day of People with Disability 2008

Tuesday, 2nd December, 2008

WheelKings players and friends headed to Parramatta today for an International Day of People with Disability Expo. Parramatta City Council and Northcott Disability Services organised the day and there were around 30 organisations represented. The sponsor for the Expo was WheelKings major sponsor, Wenty Leagues Club.

A makeshift basketball court was set up in front of the main stage and Rebel Sport provided playing equipment. The six WheelKings split into 2 teams for a game of 3 on 3 before inviting spectators to have a turn. There was no shortage of takers and some quick tuition was provided by Kylie Gauci and Craig Cannane. The participants were obviously having fun but they also found out out how difficult it can be to dribble or shoot a basketball and control a wheelchair at the same time.

Overall, it was a very enjoyable day in perfect weather (for sunburn). Thanks goes to the WheelKings who took time off work to demonstrate their skills and spread the gospel of wheelchair basketball!

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
