The Calgary Bears formed in 2007 as the second team based in Calgary.  The Bears competed against the Calgary Kangaroos in the local mens league as well as the Kelowna Cup, Stampede Cup and BC Cup.

In 2010 the Calgary Kangaroos elevated to Calgary's district level club under the restructure of Alberta Footy.  With this the Cowboys formed and will compete in the Calgary men's league in place of the Kangaroos from 2010.
