The Grand River Gargoyles are gearing up for another exciting season of Australian Rules Football, and they're doing it with a new Head Coach: Tyson Dyer.
Tyson originates from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, where he has been playing Australian Rules Football since he was a lad of 5 years.
Last year, his first as a Gargoyle, he was assistant coach under Ben Roberts. Tyson filled in admirably when Roberts and several of our best Canadian players went to represent Canada in the AFL International Cup 2014. During the 3 game stretch he lead us to a 2-1 record, including a 20 point victory over the eventual Premiers: the Broadview Hawks. Through the course of the season he also lead the team in scores, despite playing through injuries and missing a few games. All of this sets the bar high for his 2nd season.
When asked about how he plans to coach the team, Fridge responded, "I intend on bringing a more controlled and fast paced game plan to the team, as the game is evolving into a higher skill and quicker game. We have always been known as a physical team and this year will be no different."
On how he was nick-named "Fridge": "prior to senior football I had a big growth spurt and also was working out a lot. When I came to training, one of the older guys (surprised at my size) yelled out, 'What happened to you? Did you swallow a fridge?' and the name stuck."
The 2015 Gargoyles are excited to hit the field with "Fridge" leading the way.
