WNBL CAREER NOTES: This is Abby’s debut season with the Adelaide Lightning; In her only year at the Rangers, Abby played in 21 games in season 2010/11, including one final and averaged 15 points and 7 rebounds per game, which was top ten in the league in both categories; Abby won the WNBL player of the week award in Round 16…. Abby recovered from shoulder surgery in 2009 to join the Capitals in Round 10 of the 2009/10 competition. She was the 2009/10 WNBL Champion with Canberra Capitals. In the 2009/10 regular season Abby played 10 games and averaged 12.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.8 steals and 1.2 assists. In Canberra’s three playoff games she averaged 13.7 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal per game… Abby won her second title with Canberra in the 2008/09 season and was named Leading Rebounder after averaging 10.7 rebounds in the regular season… She was also named in the All-Star 5 as one of the top five scorers and top ten in steals. She amassed a career best 400 points, 261 rebounds, 24 blocks and 37 assists to average 16.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, 1 block, and 1.5 assists per game throughout the regular season and playoffs.. In 2007/2008 Abby amassed 268 points and 224 rebounds, averaging 14.0 points and 9.3 rebounds in 24 games... Outstanding in 2006/2007, Abby amassed 214 points and 169 rebounds to average 10.2 points and 8.0 rebounds per game in 24 games, including winning the Grand Final… She was named the Betty Watson Rookie of the Year in 2005/2006 after averaging 9.9 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in 12 games for the AIS.
GENERAL BASKETBALL CAREER NOTES: 2011 Named in the Australian Opals squad. Abby is a current member of the 2010 Opals World Championship team. She also made her WNBA debut in 2010 after signing with the Seattle Storm. Abby debuted for the Opals in 2007 during a three game series on a tour of the US and played in the 2007 Oceania series against New Zealand and Fiji… She averaged 10.7 points and 7.4 rebounds per game during the 2007 U21 World Championship in Russia after tallying 83 points and 59 rebounds while playing 185 minutes in eight games which included winning a Silver medal. She then averaged 12.8 points and 10.7 rebounds per game during the 2007 U19 World Championships after tallying 115 points and 96 rebounds in nine games at an average 26 minutes per game… She was a member of the current Opals squad and toured China and Europe with the team in 2009 before succumbing to a shoulder injury.
Abby has spent the off-season playing her first season in the WNBA in America for the Seattle Storm.
PERSONAL INFORMATION:
Abby has 1 brother, 1 sister, 2 nieces and 1 nephew. In her spare time Abby loves to shop, so you can always find her at the mall or chilling with family and friends. Her most memorable sporting moments were winning WNBL Championships with Canberra and getting a silver medal at the U21 World Championships in Russia. When she has finished her basketball career Abby would like to be a police officer.
COACH’S COMMENTS: Abby was Dandenong's first priority to recruit this season and we were ecstatic when she accepted. She is a natural leader, tough and super talented and will bring all of that and much more to a new group that will be better just because she is there.
