Rules and Regulations
Competition Standards
The tennis competition at the Games will be conducted under the auspices, rules and regulations of the International Tennis Federation and will also conform to any special requirements of the International Masters Games Association (IMGA).
Tournament Structure
The tournament is conducted at two levels: Open and Recreational. All events are scheduled to open with a Round-Robin competition, followed by Knock-Out competition. There are separate Round-Robin pools for Open players and Recreational players. All players will proceed to the Knock-Out competition, which is played in two grades: Championship and Consolation. Entry to the Championship grade is restricted to players ranked first or second in their Round-Robin pool. Players ranked third or lower will play in the Consolation event. The competition format for your event will be available from Tournament Control, and will be determined by the number of entries in your event.
Match Format and Schedule
Saturday October 5: Singles Round-Robin pool play
Sunday October 6: Singles Round-Robin pool play
Monday October 7: Doubles Round-Robin pool play
Tuesday October 8: Doubles Round-Robin pool play
Wednesday October 9 Sunday October 13: Championship and Consolation matches
Matches are provisionally scheduled for completion by 6.00 PM each day, but may continue later under floodlights if necessary. On Sunday October 6 and Sunday October 13, matches are scheduled for earlier completion to facilitate attendance at the Opening Ceremony and the Closing Celebration.
The Tournament Referee reserves the right to alter the format and schedule if necessary.
Round-Robin pools may consist of three, four, or five players (or pairs), and all matches will be of one 6 game tie break set (tie break at 6-6).
Championship matches will be the best of three 6 game tie break sets (tie break at 6-6).
Consolation matches will be of one 6 game tie break set (tie break at 6-6).
All players are required to report to Tournament Control when they arrive at the venue, before proceeding to the courts.
Dispute Resolution Process
Any on court disputes will be referred in the first instance to the Court Supervisor or Assistant Referee assigned to that court. Any issue not resolved by the Court Supervisor or Assistant Referee will be referred to the Referee. The decision of the Referee in all matters will be considered final.
