SIX athletics records were improved in the 2009 Pacific Mini Games at the BCI Stadium last week.
Tonga’s Ana Po’uhila broke the first record in women’s discus to set a new distance of 53.1 metres.
The old record was 51.6m.
Sprint queen Makelesi Bulikiobo set a new time in the women’s 100m sprint after clocking 11.97s. The old record was 11.99s.
Fiji’s javelin king Leslie Copeland broke his mentor James Goulding’s record of 73.58m to set up a new distance of 74.98m.
King of track Niko Verekauta managed to scribble the men’s 200m record of 21.36s. The record now stands on 21.33s.
New Caledonia’s Frederic Erin achieved more than any one else by winning his two events with new records.
He first broke the 20-year-old men’s long jump record to set up a new record of 7.74m.
Erin later straightened the men’s triple jump record with a new distance of 16.03m.
