Browne wins sports award

Cook Islander Tina Browne, president of the Oceania Netball Association and a member of the 2009 Mini Games organising committee, has been named the inaugural Pacific Sports Awards outstanding sports administrator of the year.
Award winners were announced at the Pacific Games Council (PGC) general assembly held yesterday.
While the Cook Islands nominated six people and teams for the seven awards categories, Browne won the only award for the country.
Outstanding coach of the year for the region went to Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork (Weightlifting, Samoa).
Fiji netball’s Moape Vu Ravudole won the outstanding technical official award and Dr Robin Mitchell from Fiji won the lifetime achievement award.
Outstanding junior athlete of the year went to New Caledonia swimmer Lara Grangeon, outstanding female athlete of the year was awarded to Samoan weightlifter Ele Opeloge, and male athlete of the year was also taken by a swimmer – Ryan Pini from PNG.
