Rugby sevens action on Day 8 of the games

The stands at the BCI stadium came alive today with cheering from a large crowd in what was a great days play.
The first battle of the Pacific Mini
Games featured “The Kingdom of Tonga” against their “Manu Samoa”
neighbours. Tonga opened up with a traditional Haka and Samoa responded
accordingly.
In the dying minutes of the game, Samoa is awarded with the final try on full try and is awarded to No 5 Tevita Okati with an uncoverted try. With the final whistle Samoa winning the game 18 points to 12 over Tonga.
Cooks Islands made their first appearance in the second match of the day and after a hard fought battle lost to Fiji 24-18.
Always going to be a tough third match,Tonga and Fiji went out hard with Tonga taking the first try. Tonga lead at half time and maintained the four point lead to the end winning 24-20
.
It was crunch time for Cook Islands who needed a win to stay in the contest. Samoa were a very tough opponent however Cook Islands lead at halftime but unfortunately could not hold that lead and finished with a credible draw to the team who eventually finished in top position for the day.
Having to back up matches against Tonga after their draw to Samoa, the Cook Islands found it hard to keep Tonga from scoring.  In what was the highest scoring match of the day Tonga ended up winning 28-22.
Finally samoa and fiji took to the stage and with possible fatigue playing a factor neither dominated with scores finishing in a draw Samoa 20 - Fiji 20.

Today's action starts at 12.30pm with the knockout finals Samoa vs Cook Islands and then Fiji vs Tonga, the winners progressing to the gold Medal playoff which should have a kick off time of 3.30pm.
