Papua New Guinea visits Nikao Maori School

Papua New Guinea took some time out of their bye day to visit their host school Nikao Maori this morning.
They may have been an hour late, but the children still enthusiastically lined up to provide a path for the team to move through the formal turou (welcome) in which the whole school was involved – from the preschoolers to the senior school students.
The team was initially met at the gate by the member of parliament for Nikao, Ngamau Munokoa who explained the protocol of the formal welcome before they entered. The members of the PNG party were then decked in beautiful head and neck ei that had been prepared by the staff and parents.
The turou was led by one of the school’s young leaders, Metua Taurarii, while the rest of the students sang a chant to accompany the PNG team’s walk to the welcome area.
