The Div 3 boys fresh off another bye fronted up against Bribie Island who were not too impressed when they arrived at Fort Knox on Saturday. With Pittsy umpiring, three under 16 players, three under 18 players, this topped off with the return of Reece Langan and Brad Herberte the boys took to the field full of confidence.
After a sluggish first five minutes the boys came to life and things look set for a good contest, Bribie kicked the first couple with the wind before Dan Primmer off loaded to Reece Langan who kicked our first from outside 50 into the wind. The boys looked in the contest in general play but failed to put on any scoreboard pressure in the first term.
The second term opened up the same with the locals going forward may times but again failing to put in on where it counts most. Captain Kris Bamback and the rapidly improving Dan Primmer broke through with goals as the contest tightened up. Tim Seccombe and Riki Cooper were great in the middle and around the ground, both enjoying good form all season.
A couple of under 16 players in their first game of open age footy had an immediate impact on the contest with strong fearless play, Zac Brain and Jaxon Tippet looked at home on the wings and provided many scoring opportunities for the forwards who kicked three for the term. This put us back in the game on the scoreboard but a little disappointing considering the amount of opportunity we had inside 50.
Kaye Claney was back to form and winning plenty of footy as was the entire back line that included Mat Hough back from and extended layoff, Graeme Painter did the mopping up and kept pumping the ball forward. Bill Cameron played his best game for the season in the challenging position of centre half back holding his opponent to a goal and winning the ball at ground level. Vice Captain Daniel Dargaville was solid a cross half back.
The second half proved a little harder to score, not without opportunity though. Four goals down at three quarter time and the boys knew we would have the opportunities to kick a score to win the game but fitness and poor decision making denied the boys of kicking the goals to bridge the gap. In general play we were competitive and our attack and endeavor has been great all year, we could consider ourselves a little stiff considering the players who missed through injury or work most weeks this year.
The lose rules out finals for 2010 which is disappointing to the young team, its been a tough season with differing numbers each week but we can feel happy with the team we have fielded each week, with more than 12 guys past Noosa juniors who may have been lost to the game if not for the Div 3 team. Many of the players are still learning the game and have began to show a real passion to play, this should help propel them to better things in 2011.
