WAVERLEY BLUES FOOTBALL CLUB INC – JUNIORS
PRESIDENTS REPORT 2010
2010 has been another successful season for the Waverley Blues Juniors, both on and off the field. We had a significant turnover of Committee members from 2009, whilst we recruited some new members, there were still some gaps, primarily on the Social Committee, which the existing Committee needed to cover. If club members really want this Club to continue to provide the facilities and opportunities for their kids – we need people to step forward and play their part, there is currently being too much left to too few and we run the risk of burning these people out.
I’d like to thank our 2010 Committee for their continued support and willingness to do what’s required to maintain the ongoing success of the Waverley Blues Football Club. We have a Committee of very committed and enthusiastic people, who are all passionate about providing the best possible environment for our kids to play footy.
Listening to and delivering on the requirements of our members is a key focus of the Committee and we have implemented a few initiatives to ensure we keep “in touch” with members:
- Attendance of all coaches & team managers at Committee meetings continued & I believe this improves communications and transparency of decisions across the Club. I’d like to thank them for their active participation; their feedback from the front-line has been invaluable. I also hope this exposure to the workings of the Committee might encourage more coaches, team managers to get involved at Committee level, when they’ve completed their on-field duties.
- Club Survey was conducted in August, sent to all members & available on the website. This provided members with the opportunity to rate & comment on the following key areas:
- Overall satisfaction with the club/team;
- Club admin/communication;
- Registration process/fees;
- Coaching/Team management;
- Facilities;
- Social (Family Nights);
- Player grading &;
- indications of interest in getting involved in the Club (sub-committees etc)
We received some great feedback, good ideas and areas for improvement and opportunities for the Club. The responses to this survey will be a key input to the 2011 planning for the Committee. More details on results and follow-up will be provided once the new Committee has had a chance to review.
Financially, the Club remains in a very solid position, as you will see in the Treasurer’s Report – compiled by Jon Newton. The support of all club members over many years has enabled us to be in this position- this year has seen us focus on investment to support the extra teams this season and also to continue our investment in our uniform range of jackets, t-shirts and singlets, which look fantastic and help us to look like a professional club.
In 2011 we’ll be looking to continue to improve facilities and equipment for all members to enjoy during their time at the Junior Club.
Now having completed my third year as President, I’d like to thank all of our members for your continued support, enthusiasm and positive feedback during 2010. I’ve really enjoyed the year and I look forward to assisting the 2011 Committee deliver another quality season for the Waverley Blues.
I’ve put together some of the highlights both on and off field for season 2010:
¨ 250 players registered across eleven teams (2009 – 226players/10 teams, 2008 - 195 players/8 teams); continued good relationship with our local schools and Auskick clinics along with our Club’s great reputation has helped us ensure we get good player numbers at U9/U10 age groups. For the first time ever, the Club fielded two u12 teams & maintained at least one team in each age-group (U9-U16):

In 2011, we’re anticipating we’ll maintain player numbers – with the potential of three teams in Under 9’s.
¨ Established Tally-Ho Reserve as a playing venue for Juniors in 2010. Our Under 9 10 & 11 teams played approx 3 home games each at Tally-Ho Reserve. Tally-Ho continues to be a great 2nd venue for the Blues, supporting the majority of junior training, which certainly assisted the Club in keeping the surface at Mt Waverley Reserve “playable” during the season. We’re looking to extend our use of Tally-Ho Reserve next year and will be discussing this with Council over the coming months.
¨ We had three teams play finals in 2010, with both U12 teams & the U13’s all seeing finals action for the first time. All teams won at least one final, with u12 Reds knocked out in semi-finals, U12 White (Preliminary Final) & the U13’s winning their way through to the Grand Final, which they won in a fantastic performance. Congratulations to Mike Watkin & the team on the Premiership victory !! They will now step up to “B” grade next season.
A great season by all Coaches and Team Managers across all age-groups.
¨ All coaches, team managers and trainers compliant with Working With Children requirements with all holding valid cards as per legislative requirements;
¨ Huge end-of-season social event “Blue Faces” , held in the clubrooms, with over 550 people in attendance (despite monsoon conditions !!);
¨ Continued development of talented players within our Club:
- EFL Interleague Representatives (U14A –Andrew Hayes U14B – Liam Kinsella) Both boys put in best on ground performances in the sides, with Liam tasting Interleague Premiership success.
- Taylin Duman (U12White) making the Victorian U12 team and played well in the Interstate Carnival in Perth.
- EFL Presentation Night – Waverley Blues had some great results in the League Best and Fairest voting:
* Darcy Wilmott – 1st U13C EFL Best and Fairest – added to his Wav Blues B&F and premiership medal, it was a great season for Darcy.
* James Hibbert – Runner-up U12C EFL Best and Fairest
*Andrew Hayes -Runner up U14A EFL Best and Fairest
¨ Solid performance by our Senior Club in 2nd Division, only finishing just outside the finals and the Reserves taking out back-to-back Premierships – a wonderful performance.
Thanks for a great season - see you all in season 2011 - Go Blues !!
