After a week of rain leading to the top of the table clash with Singleton, Saturday was a fine day. The ground in the centre was a bit heavy with some surface water but the ground away from the centre was in great condition. Both presidents had got together during the week and came up with the Chook and Fish Cup that will be played for when both teams meet during the season.
The first quarter seen the Marlins at their best with good hard running, tackling and team work. By the end of the quarter we had kicked 6 goals and held Singleton to 1 point. Our ball movement in the first quarter is what we have been working on. Shane Ridgeway was excellent in the ruck and around the ground. Brian Deacon also had a great game running himself into the ground by the end of the game.
The rest of the game was a hard fought affair with neither team giving an inch. It was pleasing to see that we could run the game out. Our backline held firm under some pressure from Singleton. Grant Hibbins showed the desperation that was evident throughout the game when he got back and punched the ball through for a behind when it look a certain mark and goal to Singleton.
All in all it was a great team effort and hopefully we can continue the run until the end of the season.
The player voted best on ground for this game was Shane Ridgeway.
