Only goal came in the 18th minute, scored by Ateca Fatufago. She said it was very exciting scoring the goal but came off of a lot of hardwork by her team. She was just in the right place at the right time, “It just happened to touch my stick,” Fatufago commented to FBC.
In the second half the Fijians were hard pressed as the New Zealanders threw everything they had at them. Tired bodies became increasingly evident but as time wound down Fiji held their line to keep New Zealand from scoring. The Fiji team stuck to Shaun Corrie’s (coach) game plan and managed to pull off another win.
“We played the last game last night and then having to play the first game this morning there was not enough rest for my girls but I’m happy the way the girls played and showed that they had a lot of heart,” said Corrie.
With a lot of young players making up the New Zealand Maori Women, coach Kahu Ripia said it was about creating a brighter future for hockey sport. “Also about building experience. 3 to 4 years time they will be a very good team”
