COASTAL CLUB DOMINATES REPRESENTATIVE TEAM
Batemans Bay Football club located on the south coast of NSW has dominated during selection trials for the upcoming AFL Regional Championships to be held in Wagga Wagga over the June Long Weekend.
Nine players have secured positions in the team to compete signifying its position as one of the most successful regional football clubs in recent times. The players, Matt Thompson, Pat Moore, David Vanderfeen, Taeg Rosevear, Ben Hall, Corey Cutmore, Haden Ward, Darren Stocks and Tim Hartshorn were all part of the successful team that won the Sapphire Coast AFL Premiership in 2007.
All are current members of the Batemans Bay Senior side currently sitting in second position after 6 rounds of the Sapphire Coast AFL competition. Most local football pundits agree that they are firm favourites to secure back-to-back flags.
Member of the Sapphire Coast AFL Board of Management, Mr. Greg Wollaston, has congratulated all players on this fantastic achievement.
"What a stunning result for the Batemans Bay Football Club" Wollaston said. "To have so many players representing their club at this carnival is testament to the club’s commitment to the local AFL competition."
"This group of players in particular is a blend of young and exciting individuals with a few more experienced campaigners – the perfect balance."
"A few are also new to the Representative Football experience. Those who have already had the opportunity to play at this level all have fond memories of the friendships made. For many it’s a highlight of their career, he said.
The Sapphire Coast AFL will be competing along with another 11 regional teams in 3 competition pools. The Sapphire Coast are competing in Pool B against teams from Canberra and Districts, Sydney and the North Coast. The program involves a series or shortened games in a round-robin format which is expected to showcase the fast, running game that AFL has become.
