PNG awarded the 2015 Pacific Games in close contest Today at the Edgewater Resort in Rarotonga an historic event in the life of the Pacific Games Council has unfolded. Bids were lodged on the 27th March 2009 to host the 2015 Pacific Games by three PGAs to the Council and member PGAs. These bids were received from the PGAs of Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Tonga. Subsequently Solomon Islands withdrew their bid. more -->

Solomons pull out Papua New Guinea’s and Tonga’s bid to host the 2015 Pacific Games may have a better chance since the withdrawal of Solomon Islands bid last week.
Solomon Islands National Olympic Committee president Fred Maetoloa said the decision was made following the withdrawal of their government from its support of the bid.
The Solomon Islands had bid for the 2011 games, losing out to New Caledonia and were keen to secure the hosting rights for 2015.
The Solomon’s hosted the first mini games in Honiara
in 1981.
The decision on which contender – PNG or Tonga -- wins the bid for 2015 is expected to be announced on September 27 when the Pacific Games Council holds its meeting in Rarotonga. - Helen Greig more -->

Takitumu School welcomes Solomon Islands 22nd September 2009 joel Benjamin
Takitumu School was supported by the Te Maeva Nui team from Mauke to give a rousing welcome to Team Solomon Islands on Saturday morning.
An early morning arrival, breakfast and then a formal welcome after an already long flight from their homeland was a tall order but Team Solomon Islands were gracious in their participation and appreciation of the welcome they received.
The children provided a traditional turou as the team was led to the formal welcoming area by the local (Matavera) member of parliament, Cassey Eggelton. On Saturday she was accompanied by the MP for Mauke, Mapu Taia .
The Mauke Te Maeva Nui team added their support and they will also have the honour of welcoming Team Solomon Islands into the BCI Stadium on Monday afternoon at the Grand Opening of the Pacific Mini Games.
The school was blessed with a beautiful sunny morning to welcome Team Solomon Islands into their school where they will be hosted for the next two weeks. After a prayer by the minister of the local CICC, Rev Moetaua, the flag of the Solomon Islands was raised while the children accompanied the team in singing the Solomon Islands national anthem. Formal welcomes were given by the principal of Takitumu School, Engai Pate; the MP for Matavera, Cassey Eggelton; and the MP for Mauke, Mapu Taia.
The visiting team responded through the permanent secretary of the Solomon Islands Ministry of Home Affairs and Sports, Fred Fakari’i.
The students then sang their rendition of the Pacific Mini Games song, Share the Moments. more -->

The Oceania National Olympic Committee(ONOC) delegates arrived in the Country to Meet with the the newly elected Exective Board (NOCSI) The delegate shall pay visit to Hon. Minister James Tora at the Minsitry of Home Affairs youth and sports, the Mayor of the Honiara City council - Mua and City Clerk and SI Medical commission.

This is to ensure that SI Anti-doping teamand and Solomon Islands can participate in future regional and international tournaments as well as benefit from grants to support the structure of NADO. NOCSI with the outgoing executive members lost Multipurpose Hall, cannot organize the Solomon Games 2008, spend most funds on unbudgeted items and program and a very weak management.Who should we blame? The Count to Elections The count down begins here in Honiara for the elections. Sporting Federations are lobbying each other, individual names unofficially mentioned. Solomon Islands is at the brink of taking part or not taking part in any regional or inretnational games anymore, we have to wait and see the outcome of the coming elections.

Solomon Islands Games Council Draft....Charter The Solomon Islands Games since 2002 has been adopted without a charter safeguarding the games. ONOC Delagates Will Arrive In Honiara President of the Vanuatu Olympic Committtee, Joe kalo and Regional Sport Development Manager, Brian Minikin will arrive in Honiara for the NOCSI Annual General Meeting and Elections on the 23rd of November 2008. The AGM will be significant with the long time Solomon Islands friend Joe kalo.

Joe kalos' relationship with former and present executives have foster a relationship in the two neighbouring countrys sporting history.

On their arrival in Honiara, their first meeting will be with the Solomon Islands National Sport Council at 6.30pm at the Pacific Casino Hotel. Interested Sporting Federations whom wish to have meetings with them should contact the NOCSI office on tel: 27354 to make appointments. more -->

Athletic Completes National Championship The dusty running tracks at King George VI Secondary School in Honiara doesn't stop the eagerness of athletes turning from schools and provinces to compete in the Athletics National Championship. Athletic Solomons technical personal Paul kori said, there were alot of Talent Identify during the championship.

A 15 year old woodford international school student suprises selestors in running 11.57 sec at this catergory. Paul Kori said the future of the athlete is promising for the country. He also talks on the many athletes they also identify to be in the Athletic Solomons Training Program.

Who Will be the next NOCSI BOSS? Co-operate Houses,Diplomatic Offices, NGO's,Solomon Islands Government, Sports Clubs, Sports Teams and the ordinary citizen of Solomon Islands are waiting to hear who will lead this country in the sporting administration for the next four years. A country where sport has never been a priority at all levels of administration as some said. Ordinary citizens of this country would like to see change and a better change for the future of the children of Solomon Islands.

The outgoing executive has also done alot for the past years resulting in good and bad criticisms. Expectations are high for this election as to who will be the next NOCSI boss to lead this country in sport. more -->
