Tall Ferns - On the Road again

Come along for the ride as the Tall Ferns prepare to take on Japan and Australia on our id o qualify for the 2010 World champs.

Day 1 - 6 (Sunday to Friday)

The first 6 days has gone fast as the Tall Ferns has already played and lost to Japan in 2 games as we prepare to take on Japan in game 3.

We have been in camp in Napier for the last 6 days as we prepare to take on the World champions Australian Opals.

We have been staying at the WestShore Inn in Napier. Which has been a top class facility and town for the young ferns side to prepare for the Opals series. A BIG thank you to owner Jeremy & Carol Bayliss for the great hospitality and support. I would thoroughly recommend any visitors to Napier to stay at the WestShore Inn. The food is the best in town and you are literally 200 metres from the beach.

Wednesday - We had 5 trainings together as a team before playing playing Japan this past Wednesday at the Woodford House school gym. A bg thanks to all the school students and teachers for coming along to support us. Unfortunately we could not ge the win on the day.

Thursday - Game 2 vs Japan at Pettigrew Arena, Napier

Day 5 started with the arrival of veteran Natalie Purcell into camp which would provide more experience into the team.

The crowd and atmosphere at the Pettigrew Arena has been the best game for women basketball that I have ever witness or been involved with so far in my career. A big thanks to all the supporters for coming down to support the teams and the game.

It was so loud during the game that you culd hardly even hear hd coach Shawn Dennis in the team huddles during the time outs.

Apparently it gets even louder at local Hawks game during the NBL season.

However even with the great crowd support we couldn't stop a 4th quarter run from the visitors to lose 71-80.

Outstanding games from Waitakere girl, Lisa Wallbutton(24pts 18 rebs) and Canterbarian Antonia Edmondson (25pts 10 rebs)

At the after match we had the fortunate opportunity to have dinner with past Tall Ferns captains from the 70's, 80's & 90's.

That was day 5! Phew.....

Day 6 - Training and some time out......
