Fioretto and Monash have just completed their annual inter-club teams competition, for a trophy called the 'Splinter'.
The competition started as a teams foil event, but for the last 4 years it has been a best of 3 teams event; Foil, Epee and Sabre. This year, Fioretto managed to hang onto the trophy for the second year running. Monash took the Epee smoothly and Fioretto won Sabre in a similar fashion so, as in so many years before, Foil was the tightly contested decider between the clubs. Fioretto took the event 45 - 42 thanks to great efforts from Etai and Joe, two new foilists who got their chance when two regular team members pulled out sick or injured, and Nathalie who showed why she is one of Fioretto's top foilists. Full credit to Monash who fenced a hard game with determination, fire and good sportsmanship.
Well done to both clubs, whose members are now in training for next year's Splinter.
