MEYUNS Team A proved that it is the most title hungry team this time by beating Koror Team A, 61-59, in the finals of the 2008 Elementary School Basketball Competitions on March 4 at the Palau National Gymnasium. This year's tournament is jointly sponsored by the Tobacco Control and Prevention Program (STUN Office) and Koror State Government Youth Division.
With the victory, the Dolphins won their first crown as they snapped the seven-year reign of the Stars in ES basketball.
Last year, the Dolphins settled for third place by edging G.B. Harris, 53-52, in the consolation play while the Stars booked an unprecedented seven straight crowns by escaping with a 62-60 win over the SDA Kings.
During the playoffs, the Stars eliminated the Dolphins on the way to the championship game and the crown.
This time, however, the Dolphins came roaring back with their biggest achievement with Bow leading the scoring chores with 22 points while Agassi added 10.
The other Dolphins are Alarick Wataru, who who won the coach of the Tournament Award, Jolene Rafael (Asst. coach) Kus, Ubdei, Mabd, Melson, Chioney, Irokl, Kerai, Henaro, Noel, Harley, Lipsman, Torres and Teruo.
The Stars were led by Desbel and Grant with 13 and nine points, respectively.
In the consolation play on Monday March 3, third placer GBH Smuuch outshone the fourth finisher SDA Kings, 73-48.
MES Team A advanced to the finals via a 51-49 victory over SDA Kings on Friday Feb. 29 while KES Team A advanced by beating GBH, 57-41.
Two other teams joined this year with MES Team B finishing fifth while KES Team B sixth.
