Peched Boys take 18U crown in KSG Youth cagefest
Team Peched Boyz proved too much as they went on to beat South Coast, 74-65 Tuesday afternoon to take home the championship crown in the boys 18 and Under division of the 2012 Koror State Youth basketball tournament at the Palau National gym.
After taking a 14-7 lead in the opening tip off, Peched Boys went slow as team South Coast managed to come back to tie the game at 36-all at the end of the first half.
National players Medermel Yaoch and Edward Baysa then took over the scoring chores for Peched Boys as they led a 19-12 assault to grab the lead at 55-48. From there, Peched Boys held on as they went straight to take the game and the championship crown.
Baysa paced Peched with 19 markers as teammate Yaoch finished with 16 while Jimboy and Noah topscored for South Coast with identical 11 baskets, respectively.
In the consolation game, Ngerchemai Boys bested Meda Boys, 46-43.
As follows are the winners of the tournament: Girls 18 and Under – Meda Girls (champion); 12 and Under co-ed – Ngerchemai Kids (champion); 15 and Under co-ed – Ngerchemai Jrs (champion) and Meda Jrs (2nd place).
Specially designed trophies were awarded to the winners by Koror State Youth Council president Kenny Reklai and Ivan Blesam of the Koror State Youth Division Office.
The tournament, which is supervised by the Palau Basketball Federation (PBF), is sponsored by President Johnson Toribiong, Vice President Kerai Mariur, Sen. Elias Camsek Chin, Sen. Tommy Remengesau Jr., IP&E Palau, Palau National Olympic Committee, Koror State Government (Youth Division), Legislators Ehrlick Termeteet, Jason Nolan, Felix Francisco and Kazuki “Topps” Sungino, Koror State Youth Council, KSYC Ngerchemai representative Anna Lisa Ngiraklei, KSYC Ngerbeched representative Kebesei Mesubed, KSYC Medalaii representative Kenny Reklai, KSYC Idid representative Leilani Etpison, Jesse Sumor and Jennifer Akiwo.
