Team Palau bows to host teams in U19 MBT

Team Palau men’s and women’s squad fell short as they bowed to host Guam Under 19 at the start of the Matson’s men’s and women’s Micronesian Basketball Tournament, Sunday at the FDMS Phoenix Center in Guam.

The men’s team bowed to a much superior Guam Under 19, 80-51. The Palau men’s team trailed much of the game with Guam Under 19 showing their defensive prowess as they the later trailed in the first canto, 44-34. Marvic Ngchar led the charge for team Palau with 16 points while O’Brien Ngernaes added 10.

On the other hand, Sammy Setik scored a team high 20 points for Guam Under 19 while 2013 Shieh Scholar Male Athlete winner Michael Sakazaki chopped in 14 markers.  

In the distaff side, team Palau bowed to the Guam Under 19 team, 70-31. In other games, CNMI beat Guam 16 Under, 45-29; Guam 16 Under men won over CNMI men. 72-67.

Games will resume today with team Palau women taking CNMI women at 5 p.m. while team Palau men will face CNMI in the main game at 9 p.m.

Other schedule of team Palau are as follows: June 26 – Palau vs. Guam Under 16 (women) at 8 p.m.; June 27 – Palau vs. Guam Under 16 (men) at 6 p.m.

On a different note, the world class Palau Pacific Resort and CTSI Logistics had poured their support for team Palau to the Matson’s men’s and women’s Micronesian Basketball Tournament in Guam.

PPR donated $1,000 while CTSI Logistics gave $500 for the team which is seeing action against teams from the Commonwealth of Northern Marianas Island and two teams from host Guam.

Team Palau men’s squad is composed of Marvic Ngchar, O’Brien Ngemaes Jr., RB Dorado, Edward Baysa, Ray Rumong, Ngetimis Emesiochel, Medermel Yaoch, Keene Isao, Lipsman Timothy, Shonty Ubedei, O’Quinn Sakuma and Jim Ge with Ziske Asanuma as head coach and Logan Ngiriou as assistant coach.

For the girl’s team it will be composed of Diliaur Kumaichi, Ipolani Kebekol, Charity Chiokai, Meangeldil Azuma, Trang Sarabeth Ksano, Chantal Vanderberg, Kukong Ridep, Sherelle Williams, Deureng Misech, Mahealani Adelbai, Dorene Olkeriil, Marley Rubauliman and Cherry Steven with Jubilee Kuartei as head coach and Happy Fritz as assistant coach.  By Peter Erick L.
