MogMog, WCTC score win in FBL Masters

Teams MogMog Rats and Stars and WCTC Powerball secured separate victories after beating respective rivals, Sunday in the ongoing 2014 Filipino Master League basketball tournament at the Palau National gym.

MogMog Rats and Stars nailed their 6th straight win at the expense of Surangel and Sons, 106-65. Trailing 27-21 at the end of the opening frame, Rats and Stars showed their might as they outscored Surangel and Sons with a 22-12 run in the second to take a 43-39 advantage in the half.

From there, MogMog Rats and Stars continued their domination as they received less resistance to take the win with Jojo Arevalo leading the way with 33 points while Medel Cuyugan chipped in 25 as they now sport a 6-1win-loss record.

On the other hand, Rafael Paloma and Antoque topscored for Surangel and Sons with identical 18 baskets while Pagunsan added 17 on the losing cause as they now take a 0-6 tally in the team standings.

Meanwhile, WCTC Powerball fought hard as they managed to fend off Melusch Dil, 71-65. WCTC took a commanding 45-30 lead at the half but Melusch Dil tried to comeback as they outscore the latter with a 14-3 run as the lead was cut down to 48-44.

But WCTC managed to re-group as they stood their ground in the final canto and take the win with Jojo Marino leading the way with 29 baskets as they now take third spot in the team standings with a 4-2 record while Melusch Dil drops to fourth place with a 4-3 chip despite the 19 point production of Luna.

In other games, Gilas Originals drubbed Mason Hardware, 91-78; and PPR All Stud beat team Kabalikat, 86-57.

Games will resume on September 21 with the last two games of the elimination round featuring WCTC Powerball versus Mason’s Hardware at 11 a.m. while cellar dweller team Kabalikat will face Surangel and Sons in the main game at 12:30 p.m.
