On Saturday 28th Nov 9am, the Kiribati Basketball Federation officially opened the event known as the Xmas Basketball Champ in the Bairiki Basketball Court. Two weeks prior the game commences NBDO and two H4H coaches volunteering distributing registration forms, advertising via radio, network and flyers hang around the island especially in playing venues, villages and etc. One week prior all registration forms returned from different teams per clubs. These are Bairiki club registering 1 division men, division 2 A, 2 B, Betio club registering 2 teams for division 1 men, division 2 A, 2 B, Bairiki club, Teaoraereke club, Eita club, Bikenibeu club, Nawerewere club and Buota club. For overall, there were 10 teams for men, 8 teams for division 2 A men, 6 for division 2 B and women division 1. The game runs weekly from Monday - Friday starting games from 3pm for junior boys and senior men and women 5pm onwards.

Womens and junior boys are heading now their last matches on Saturday 19/12 before the playoffs coming. Senior men will be completing their games next week on Tuesday 22/12 afternoon and all playoffs to be kick off the next day. The game suppose to be completed earlier but due to bad weather there are few games did not matched which can make the competition slow. The federation, NBDO, officials and all volunteers work hard to make the event successful.
