Trevor Davies has stepped down as West Footscray coach, leaving former assistant David Orchard to take the reins for the 2015 Western Region Football League season.
Orchard played a major part in the Roosters’ 2014 campaign which ended with a grand final loss to Parkside.
“But that means nothing if you can’t put it together this year,” Orchard said.
The Roosters proved hard to handle this season after an aggressive recruiting drive, saving their best for the second half of the campaign.
The club’s 43-point win over Wyndham Vale in the preliminary final was its best performance of the season, but Parkside proved a class above in the Division 2 decider a week later.
Full-forward Damien Yze was also a focal point for the Roosters, bagging over 100 goals for the year.
“Anyone who can sit up there and kick 100 goals, it’s a credit to him,” Orchard said.
“I’m catching up with Damien next week, we’re working terms. But we’ve retained, I’m confident in saying, 99 per cent of the list.”
Work and family commitments prevented the respected Davies — a premiership player at West Footscray — from continuing in the top job next year.
