SHANE Weatherley’s two last quarter goals helped seal victory for the Yarraville Seddon Eagles in Saturday’s Second Semi Final.
For the second straight year, the Eagles defeated North Footscray in the first week of finals to book their spot in the Division 2 Senior Grand Final.
It was a tight battle between the top two sides throughout the afternoon, with the half-time margin of 14-points the biggest of the day.
In a low scoring affair, the Devils looked like breaking the game open in the early stages of the final quarter as they controlled possession.
Captain Sam Kater goaled and the margin was just six points, but Weatherley was able to score from a set-shot to bring the margin back out to 12-points.
As the final siren sounded, the Eagles led 7.11. (53) to the Devils 6.5. (41).
Yarraville Seddon have now earned the weekend off and will face either North Footscray or Manor Lakes in the decider on September 10 at Burbank Oval.
North Footscray will now take on Manor Lakes in the Preliminary Final after the Storm defeated the Cobras in the First Semi Final on Sunday.
In wet and wintry conditions the Storm came out firing, kicking six unanswered goals in the first term.
Albanvale mounted a fightback in the second quarter, closing the margin to 25-points at half-time.
However it was one way traffic in the second-half, with Aaron Bradley’s men kicking seven goals to three to win the match and progress through to Week 2 of Finals.
Jackson Redfern and James Farrugia each kicked three goals in the 48-point win. Redfern and William Finlay were named in the best for the Storm.
The Devils will be desperate that history doesn’t repeat itself this year when they take on the Storm. Last year the club finished on top of ladder and were defeated in straight sets.
The Preliminary Final will be played at Wyndhamvale Reserve on Saturday at 2.15pm.
