WERRIBEE Districts overcame a third quarter blast from Yarraville Seddon to claim a 17-point win at Yarraville Oval.
A long goal from Lachy Huell gave Yarraville Seddon the lead in the opening minute, but their poor kicking let them down and allowed Werribee Districts to lead by four points at quarter-time.
The Tigers’ defence stopped everything that came their way and kept the Eagles scoreless in the second quarter, but one goal and seven behinds at the other end meant Werribee Districts stretched the margin to just 17-points at half-time.
The poor kicking kept Yarraville Seddon in the game and they made the most of their opportunities with a five goal burst in the third term, but two late goals from the Tigers gave them a two point lead going into the last break.
With the game on the line, a goal from Mijiele Jese Koroibete gave the Eagles the early lead in the fourth term, but from then on it was all Werribee Districts as they kicked three goals and claimed the 17-point win.
The win sees the Tigers maintain their spot on top of the ladder for another week.
Joshua Snow and Adam Harkins played well in defence for Werribee Districts, while Aaron Law added another three goals to his season’s tally.
Connor Smillie and Ben Wagland were the Eagles’ standouts as Mijiele Jese Koroibete, Blake Green and Lachy Huell all kicked two goals each.
Altona broke their six game losing streak with a 23-point upset win over Hoppers Crossing at Grant Reserve.
Hoppers Crossing looked like carrying on their momentum from last week’s huge win and sped off to a 12-point lead at quarter time, but Altona turned the tide in the second term and lead by a single point at half-time.
After the long break, the Vikings were able to restrict Hoppers Crossing to just three goals and their second lowest score of the season as they picked up the 23-point win.
Matthew Wright and Will Taylor were Altona’s best while Jack Reynolds also stood out with three goals. Paul Tomelty and Lachlan Grant each finished with two goals for the Warriors.
Deer Park had the weekend off as Spotswood forfeited their match at McLean Reserve.
Round 14 kicks off with a top of the ladder clash between Werribee Districts and Deer Park at Soldiers Reserve.
Altona will be looking to carry on their good form when they travel to McLean Reserve to take on Spotswood and Hoppers Crossing host Yarraville Seddon at Hogans Road Reserve.
