After a decorated career playing for the Mitta United Football Club, Chris and Justin Nelson have made the move to North Footscray with good mate and former Mitta premiership player Ethan O’Donnell.
Moving to Melbourne for study in 2003, the twins indicated that travelling back to Albury to play for more than 10 years has taken its toll mentally and physically.
“It’s hard to play good footy after a four hour drive to Mitta.”
The twins began their senior careers at Mitta in the late 90’s and went on to play in one of the club’s greatest eras, playing in three premierships as well as winning a league best and fairest each.
Although pushing 30, the boys hope they can still have an impact on the field at senior level and hope to bring some experience to the young North Footscray line up.
“We keep ourselves reasonably fit as we need to be in good health for work.”
Outside of football, the Nelson Twins are a rapid rising comedy talent in Australia. The boys enjoyed a successful Australia’s Got Talent campaign two years ago where they made it all the way to the final, dazzling the judges with their cheeky humour.
Chris and Justin have since left their day jobs as school teachers and gone on to become professional comedians. They both claim to have the best job in the world.
“It doesn’t get much better then telling jokes for a living,” Chris said.
The life of a comedian is not all glamorous though as it sometimes takes the boys away from home for several weeks at a time which can be particularly hard on Justin who has two young kids. It also means the boys have to miss the odd game of football.
The duo can often be seen performing around Melbourne’s comedy venues and in recent years have turned to entertaining sporting clubs around Australia.
If you’d like to book a couple of North Footscray funny buggers for your next function you can contact the boys through their website: www.nelsontwins.com.au or give them a call directly on 0417 502 538.
