Five Western Region Football League players have been named in the preliminary AFL Vic Metro Senior squad ahead of the AFL Victoria Community Cup later in the year.
WRFL Interleague captain Jason Cloke (Spotswood), vice-captain Tim Jenkins (St. Albans), Best on Ground medalist Lee Spiteri (Altona), Torren Bonnett (Port Melbourne Colts) and Brad Sutcliffe (Port Melbourne Colts) have been selected to represent the west.
Coached by Footscray legend Brian Royal, the 43-man squad includes players from all six metropolitan leagues that competed in the Metro Championships last month.
With the help of the selection panel made up of assistant coaches Scott West, Michael Ford, Sean Millane and Steve Teakel, the squad will be trimmed down to a final squad of 25, who will face a representative side from WorkSafe AFL Victoria Country on Saturday July 12 at a destination to be finalized in the coming days.
