With squad training for the WRFL 2014 junior interleague campaign now in full swing, the league has welcomed confirmation of a major funding support package from the Brook on Sneydes community partnership programme.
Brook on Sneydes is a family entertainment and function centre located in Point Cook. Each year the centre invests $100,000 to assist local not-for-profit organisations. More than thirty Wyndham-based organisations have received funding support in the four years since the programme was initiated. WRFL Football Operations & Club Development Officer Tim Shellcot made application for a grant from the 2014 funding round in April, with the aim of reducing the cost to junior players who are selected to represent the WRFL in interleague games.
“Despite a significant subsidy from the League, junior players’ parents are required to contribute a levy towards the cost of the interleague programme,” said Shellcot. “The Brook on Sneydes community partnership grant will reduce the levy cost by more than $50 for each player. This will be a huge assistance, especially to families that have two or even three players selected to represent the WRFL.”
The 2014 round of community partnership grants will be announced formally at a function at Brook on Sneydes on June 25th, where the WRFL will be represented by President Bruce Mildenhall and Tim Shellcot. At the WRFL Board meeting last Monday, Bruce Mildenhall welcomed advice of the grant and expressed thanks from the Board to Brook on Sneydes. “This is a wonderful initiative from a community-minded local business that will lower the financial barrier to interleague participation for many of our most talented young players”, he said. “The Brook on Sneydes’ management is to be congratulated and I encourage all WRFL clubs to return the favour by supporting their business wherever possible”.
The 2014 WRFL interleague campaign kicks off next Wednesday night with games for Youth Girls, Under 14s, Under 15s and Under 16s. Visit the WRFL website www.wrfl.asn.au for full details of times and venues.
