Get in the game of life and become a positive role model at your club this season with the Sons of the West Men’s Health Program.
Helping hundreds of men tackle health issues its debut year last season, the Western Bulldogs’ Sons of the West program is ready to get more men back in the game of life in 2015.
Identifying men living in Melbourne’s west among those with the poorest health levels in the state, the initiative provides men aged 18 years and over with the opportunity to improve their overall health and wellbeing.
With a number of these men participating in Western Region Football League as players, coaches, volunteers and supporters, Sons of the West Program Manager Nathan Bibby says there’s no better time to get on board and keep up with the kids this football season.
“Health issues are something which a lot of men tend to shy away from and not talk about too often, so the more awareness and guidance we can provide them, the better.
“With a number of men involved in local football in the WRFL, we urge all husbands, brothers, fathers, coaches, players and volunteers to get involved and become a positive role model for your family and local club.”
Throughout the year, participants will learn to recognise the risk factors and develop healthy habits during a number of regular information sessions run in each of the five western region municipalities.
Lending a hand and supporting participants along the way will once again be local football icons and Sons of the West ambassadors Doug Hawkins, Tony Liberatore, Steve Kretiuk and Scott West, as well as master chef, Shane Delia.
“It’s great to have the support of our ambassadors come on board once again to help improve the lifestyles of men in the west,” Bibby said.
“The fact that so many of them have a strong connection with the WRFL is a testament to their passion for local football and their ability to help change the health of clubs for the future.”
