DIVISION ONE
Deer Park:
The official transfers of former AFL players Bret Thornton and Brent Guerra have come through the database this week, with Thornton set to head to the Alberton Football League’s Dalyston Football Club while Guerra will get his first coaching opportunity at the Chelsea Football Club. Also departing the Lions is Heath Ayres who looks for a new change at the NFL’s Lower Plenty Football Club, while in comes former Laverton President Scott Mizzi after departing the Magpies earlier this year.
Hoppers Crossing:
The Warriors have welcomed two newcomers to its talented young side including Mitch Merrifield from Werribee Centrals Football Club and 19-year-old Mohamed Dibb from Albion.
Port Colts:
The Vuli boys are back for another season at the WRFL, returning to the Port Melbourne Colts. Having played with the Colts for over a decade, brothers Toni and Daniel will be a handy return to JL Murphy Reserve after leaving the club at the end of season 2013 to spend a year playing for Corio in the GDFL.
Spotswood:
There has been a few departures from McLean Reserve this week as 2013 Rookie of the Year recipient Shaun Ross has been approved to go to the EDFL’s Doutta Stars, while Kieran McConnell is awaiting his transfer to play with Cheltenham FC in the SFL. Despite the departures, its promising signs to see Spotswood pair Michael Fogarty and David Iaccarino have maintained their VFL contract with the Footscray Bulldogs.
St. Albans:
The Saints will be seeing double this week with two Anthony’s coming into the squad. Anthony Cristofaro will make the swtich from Yarraville Seddon as well as 21-year-old Anthony Piva who will return to the club after spending time at the Ballarat Football League’s Melton South Football Club.
Werribee Districts:
Jesse Fortune will return to the WRFL as a Tiger after spending a season with the EDFL’s Pascoe Vale Football Club. Having being part of the 2013 Division Two Premiership side with Glen Orden, Fortune will return to his junior club Werribee Districts after playing just 11 games with Pascoe Vale last season.
DIVISION TWO
North Footscray:
Andrew Cunningham will become a Devil this season after coming across from Werribee Centrals in the GDFL. Having played his junior football in the WRFL with Werribee Districts, Cunningham will no doubt be a welcomed addition to North Footscray as they look to rise up the ladder in 2015.
Manor Lakes:
One half of the Hunter brothers duo will depart Manor Lakes this season, with older brother Charles looking to head to the East Geelong Football Club. Playing all 21 games for the Storm in its debt year in 2013, Hunter will return to East Geelong where he played a season in 2011. Also departing Howqua Reserve is teammate Frank Pavez who will head across to the GDFL after chalking up 11 games for Manor Lakes last season.
West Footscray:
There will be four new Roosters at Shorten Reserve this season with 20-year-old Jack Kelly transferring from the Murray Football League into the side, while Parkside’s Con Boulionis will also suit up for West Footscray. Other additions include Yarraville Seddon Eagles player Shannon Downey and Asher Kirk who will be coming across from the VAFA.
DIVISION THREE
Albanvale:
Dallas Redfern will return to Robert Bruce Reserve this season after returning from a stint at the Lara Football Club. All too familiar with the WRFL after spending six seasons with Braybrook, Redfern will once again suit up in the blue and white after playing two solid seasons for the Cobras in 2012 and 2013. The Cobras will also welcome young Haydn Gray who will swap his EDFL umpire whites for a Cobra’s uniform as he suits up to play in 2015.
Braybrook:
Braybrook has picked up two young players in the hope of generating more youth into the squad this season. 20-year-old Jack Hargreaves will become a Bomber after moving from neighbourhood club West Footscray, while 22-year-old Thomas Kimpton will also don the sash after coming over from the Walla Walla FNC.
Sanctuary Lakes:
Scott Bell is heading down the freeway to suit up for Sanctuary Lakes this season. Getting a taste of finals football with the Magpies last year, Bell capped of a terrific season, taking home the club Leading Goal Kicking Award and Best and Fairest. Other additions to the Sharks include Joey Ramos who leaves the Sunshine Football Club, Luke Partridge (Melton Centrals) and Justin Braham (Manor Lakes). Out goes Jesse Kay who will suit up for fellow Division Three Club Wyndham Suns.
North Sunshine:
North Sunshine has picked up two new faces to add to its squad including Keti Maiava (Taylors Lakes) and David Lambert (Glen Orden), while out goes Mahmoud Hawli to competition newcomers, Wyndham Suns.
Western Jets:
A few more young names have been added to the Western Jets list, including Deer Park’s Nick Giarrizzo and 2014 WRFL Under 16B Best and Fairest player Mark Galea, Yarraville Seddon’s Braydon Lester and Kyle Blake, Werribee Districts’ trio Gavin Donnon, Jesse Pattison and 2014 Rookie of the Year winner Tyler Crennan, Spotswood’s Connor Daley, Werribee Centrals’ Josh Sutton and Daryl Chesterman, Caroline Springs’ Matthew Volkanovski and Hoppers Crossing’s Jordan Viojo-Rainbow.
