NORTH SUNSHINE
Youth is the theme down at Dempster Park this season, with a playing group boasting an average age of 22 leading the charge in 2015.
With the club’s Reserves team experiencing a taste of finals action last season, club President Ray Portelli is optimistic both teams are in the running for finals glory once again.
Teams fielding in 2015:
We are fielding two teams again this season, Seniors and Reserves.
How has the pre-season been?
Our pre-season has been really pleasing. There has been a solid turn out for training each week and we’ve also had a few new faces on the track who have brought a new dynamic to the group. We are looking a lot fitter as well, so we are certainly looking forward to Round 1.
Who are some of the noteworthy signings for 2015?
We picked up three boys from the RDFL’s Rockbank Football Club as well as a couple from around the league including big bodied David Lambert (Glen Orden), Dayne King (Caroline Springs), Matt Hitch and Brent Henry (both Glen Orden). All of the new faces have blended in nicely with the core group and have hit the ground running.
What are your expectations for the new season?
Our expectations are to be more competitive and have success in 2015. If our practice match results against Corio are anything to go by (Seniors went down by three goals and Reserves won by eight goals) we are definitely on track to fulfilling this.
Who are some of the young up and coming players to look out for this year?
We have such a young list this season with the average age of the group around 22-years, so they are all ones to look out for. The great thing about having a young side is to ensure the club’s longevity and to maintain a great core group at the club for many years to come.
Upcoming events:
We have our Auskick Centre starting on Saturday morning April 11 from 9:30am- 10:30am at Dempster Park. All kids aged 6-12 years old are welcome to attend and have a kick on the oval and learn new skills! For more information, please call Ray Portelli on 0448-822-752
North Sunshine FC is also hosting a Past Players, Life Members and Officials Day at Dempster Park during Round 2 of the football season.
The day will kick off at 1pm (half of the Reserves match) when the Roadrunners take on Albanvale on Saturday April 18.
