WYNDHAMVALE
There’s been plenty of news at the Falcons nest during over summer, with a new president, new coach and a few new faces to join the team in 2015.
With the Reserves taking home the silverware last season, club president Rob Cachia says the rest of the club is embracing a new game plan which will put its seniors in good stead to play on Grand Final day.
Teams fielding in 2015:
This year the club is fielding 12 sides, including our Youth Girls squad.
How has the pre-season been?
Pre-season is going smoothly and the boys have embraced the new game plan and structures we are implementing. We are very pleased with our U18 group of players. They have embraced pre-season and the group will be a strong list leading into the 2015 season.
Who are some of the noteworthy signings for 2015?
We are encouraged that we have maintained our core group from last year, with every player keen to develop themselves further. We have signed fast running Nathan Bissett from Portarlington who has a wealth of experience and will no doubt make an impact from Round 1. More news on our new recruits in will be provided in the coming weeks so stay tuned.
What are your expectations for the new season?
Our expectations for a successful year is to work on continued improvement of our 17-23 year old players. We are quite excited about this group of young players. We will also aim for an increase in our competitive spirit.
Are there any new coaching staff?
The Club is moving into a new era with the appointment of Troy Beamond as our Senior Coach. We see this as a strong appointment for the club and Troy has already made an impact both on and off the field. He brings with him a depth of experience and a style that has blended in well with the playing group. We have also appointed Paul O'Shea, Chris Graham and Daniel Bunworth as playing assistants. Our previous coach, Luke Dennerley, is remaining as a player and is enjoying the lack of stress.
2015 Captain:
Chris Graham will captain our senior side in 2015, while Alex Hamilton, Devan Ellis, and Blake Parker will share the leadership responsibility as our Vice Captains.
Upcoming events:
Our first two home games will both be played under lights.
Round 1 against Manor Lakes brings together the two neighbouring clubs and both clubs’ aim to showcase WRFL football to our community with the opening game each year at our respective venues. The club also looks forward to hosting its first Anzac Day tribute match in Round 3 against Sunshine Heights.
