WYNDHAM SUNS
Taking home the Under 14 Premiership in its debut season, the Suns will take another giant step in its short history with the addition of its Senior players joining the WRFL after moving across from the VAFA.
With the renovations at Goddard St completed, club Vice President Herb Gallina says if the huge numbers on the training track has anything to do with it, they are in for an exciting time ahead.
Teams fielding in 2015:
The Suns will field 9 teams in the WRFL competition in 2015, including U9, U10, U11, U12, U14, two x U16, Reserves and Seniors. We’re still seeking players, especially for age groups U9s to U14s.
How has the pre-season been?
The Suns have had terrific numbers for pre-season with lots of new players jumping on board. The endeavour of the Senior group has suggests exciting times ahead. The juniors have been equally inspiring, with many on the training track even before official pre-season began!
Who are some of the noteworthy signings for 2015?
The standout signing has been new senior coach Matthew Stoodley. Ably assisted by John Cott (as reserves coach) and Michael Seex (reserves playing assistant coach), the trio promises a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Club in its inaugural year of playing senior footy in the WRFL.
What are your expectations for the new season?
As a club in its second year as a rebranded entity at a new venue, we aim to consolidate our position as a community friendly club. We aim to heavily promote and expand our junior base, capture and build on the early excitement of our new senior group, forge relationships with other local community and sporting groups, and make Wyndham Suns at Goddard Street the club of choice. On the field, our goal is to provide the opportunity to play football to all comers, and for all our competition teams to make and be successful in finals.
Who are the young up and coming players to look out for this year?
It’s difficult to individualise, but we’re expecting big things from a number of last year’s exciting U19 players who will step up to play senior football. We also have a number of new players to the list and, if early training signs are an indication of things to come, we’ll have the talent to be very competitive on the track.
Are there any coaching changes this season?
All three newly appointed senior coaches (Matthew Stoodley, John Cott and Michael Seex) have blended in really well and have led by example. Their professional styles and work ethic has been fantastic for this blended group who are still getting to know each-other.
