ALBANVALE
With a two-point Grand Final loss still haunting the Cobras over the pre-season, coach John Thrush and his team have been working hard to ensure they go one better in 2015.
With a few new faces, new coaching staff and a new captain leading the charge, opponents beware as the Cobras are preparing for one heck of a season.
Teams fielding in 2015:
This year we will be fielding six sides, including three senior teams (seniors, reserves and Under 18s) and three junior teams (Under 16s, 13s, and under 11s).
How has the pre-season been?
Our pre-season has been solid. The boys are training hard which has been great to see and while numbers have varied from time to time on the track, we have been happy with the results.
Who are some of the noteworthy signings for 2015?
We are still pending on a few clearances, but at this stage we can confirm the signings of Chris Loc and Julian Storey who will be lining up for the Cobras, with the hope of getting a few others over the line in the coming weeks. We can also look forward to having a few more players return from overseas trips from last year as well, however the most pleasing part is that all players from last year have stayed on board in 2015.
What are your expectations for the new season?
We wanted to expand our junior teams and get an Under 18s team this season. As a senior group we want to go one better than last year and take home our first senior premiership.
Who are some of the young up and coming players to look out for this year?
All our players have been putting in the hard yards, but a few have been putting up some good running times compared to this time last year. The Formosa brothers are always among the best time trials, while Sean Blake and David Azzopardi are always sharp on the skills side of training.
Any staff/coaching changes this season?
This year we would like to welcome our new assistant coach Dan Kelly. Dan has a lot of playing and winning experience in the VAFA competition, so we are hoping he can use that knowledge with our playing group. Also joining the coaching panel is Ange Messina as the new reserves coach.
2015 Captain:
Nathan Cuthbertson will be our new senior captain in 2015. Nathan was our co-winner of the Club best and fairest count last season and will thrive on being our leader after taking over from long-term captain Michael Spatoilsano.
