So what did we learn from round one that we did not know before the real stuff started?
We do know that the reigning premiers have lost a lot of big name players but what we found out is they have recruited well and have some very exciting young players emerging. We already know about Broadbent and Crawford but Rod Van Riet is a classy player and Ewer, Maglogiannis and Amarantidis are the future stars of the competition.

DIVISION ONE RESERVES:

Deer Park has kicked off its 2015 campaign in style with a convincing 68-point victory over Spotswood.
The Lions gave their home crowd a first round treat as they led from the front, extending the margin at each break before running home 17.14.116 to 7.6.48 winners.
Despite the loss, Spotswood will look to bounce back at home in Round 2 as they come up against last year’s premiers St. Albans, while Deer Park will travel away to face Altona.

DIVISION ONE UNDER 18s:

In a rematch of last year’s Under 18 Division One Grand Final, Spotswood has survived a last quarter surge by Werribee Districts to claim its first win for the season, in a five-point thriller at Soldiers Reserve.
Spotswood had a fast start opening up a 31-point lead, kicking six to Werribee’s single goal. It was a tale of two quarters as Werribee had the better of things in the second, going into half time just three points behind.
The third quarter was arguably where Spotswood marked their intent, with a five-goal quarter, restricting Werribee to just two majors to set up the win.
