Sunshine Football Club will this weekend host a Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation (VRGF) Match of the Month in conjunction with AFL Victoria, with the aim to help clubs take a responsible approach to gambling.
The Western Region Football League club will host Altona this Saturday at Kinder Smith Reserve and will show its support for the VRGF’s Bet Regret campaign by helping raise awareness of responsible gambling practices and Gamblers Help services.
Sunshine FC recently signed the Responsible Gambling Charter and believes it is part of its role in the community to help minimise young people’s exposure to gambling activities and advertising.
AFL Victoria CEO Steven Reaper said problem gambling is a growing issue in the community, with sporting clubs able to take a leading role in education and awareness for its prevention.
“AFL Victoria is pleased to once again partner with the Victorian Responsible Gambling Foundation to encourage clubs to take a proactive approach to responsible gambling ,” Reaper said.
“Education is critical to help prevent problem gambling and related harm, and events like these help raise awareness to the wider community of the support and services the Foundation offers.”
The match is the second of three to be played in coming months, with each game to feature a luncheon and guest speaker from the VRGF.
