THE friends of Lucas McGhie have rallied behind him after the former premiership star was diagnosed with Stage Four Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Lucas and his wife Harna are expecting the arrival of their first child in January 2016, however their baby news was overshadowed when Lucas found out he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in August.
Lucas is currently halfway through his treatment and while he is kicking goals there is still a long way to go.
His friends are calling on local WRFL clubs, other sporting organisations and business in the region to help out their mate.
Lucas was a premiership player with West Footscray in 2007 and was also the captain of the 2007 Division Two Team of the Year.
He is the son of the great Robert McGhie who played for both Richmond and Footscray.
Lucas is a dedicated member of the community and has been involved with various clubs over the years including the Spotswood Football Club, West Footscray Football Club, Kooringal Golf Club and the Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club.
Lucas and his wife Harna also work at the Melbourne Zoo.
The fundraiser will be held on November 29 at the Spotswood Cricket Club at 12 noon.
The event will include an auction, silent auction and a raffle, which will feature donated goods and services from local businesses and organisations.
For more information on how to make a donation for the auctions or raffles or for ticket information contact Jeremy Bond on 0420 772 129, Callum Urch on 0418 750 447 or Anders Welsh on 0458 131 366.
