WERRIBEE Districts cemented their spot on top of the ladder with a come from behind win over Hoppers Crossing at Hogans Road Reserve.
The Warriors got the better of the first quarter, keeping the ball in their half of the ground for most of the time and kicking three goals to one to lead by 12-points at the first break.
Werribee Districts came out stronger in the second quarter, but the rain made kicking and marking difficult and both teams could only add one goal each before half-time.
The rain cleared up in the third term and the Tigers’ forwards looked dangerous on the lead, but inaccurate kicking meant they couldn’t reduce the lead before Hoppers Crossing kicked the last three goals of the quarter to take a 27-point lead into the final term.
The Warriors looked set for a comfortable win and top spot on the ladder before Werribee Districts turned the game on its head in the last quarter.
The Tigers came out firing and overran Hoppers Crossing, kicking five goals to none for an eight point win.
Aaron Law kicked three important goals for the Tigers in the last quarter and both Daniel Kerruish and Joel Russell kicked two.
Brayden Kitchen was the best on ground for Hoppers Crossing and finished with three goals while Jackson Fullerton also kicked two goals.
Yarraville Seddon scored their second win of the season beating Spotswood by 39-points at McLean Reserve.
After an even first quarter where both teams kicked two goals each, the Eagles were able to restrict Spotswood to just one more goal for the rest of the game while kicking seven of their own to take home the win.
Jake King and Ben Wagland were Yarraville Seddon’s best on the day and Lachlan Formosa was the only multiple goal kicker with two for the Eagles. Jaii Bunting and Joshua Drage were the standouts for Spotswood.
In the final game of the round, Deer Park defeated Altona by 35-points at Grant Reserve.
Deer Park took an early lead in the first quarter and were able to maintain it for the rest of game as they restricted Altona to just five goals.
Mark Galea was Deer Park’s best with five goals while Suren Bowala kicked two for the Vikings.
Round 9 sees Yarraville Seddon aiming for their third straight win when they travel to John McLeod Reserve to play Deer Park.
Hoppers Crossing will look to rebound from their second straight loss when they meet Altona at Hogans Road Reserve and Werribee Districts will take on Spotswood at Soldiers Reserve.
