GREAT START TO PNG GAMES BASKETBALL
Friday 20th November saw the start of the PNG Games Basketball Competition at the Murray Barracks courts in Port Moresby. From the 20 Provinces of PNG there are 19 Mens teams and 18 Womens teams registered, this makes for one of the spectacular and competitive sports at the PNG Games and really highlights just how popular basketball is in Papua New Guinea.
14 Matches were held on Day 1 and there was great support from all of the participating teams throughout the day. The crowd quickly grew to over 1000 spectators as the matches continued into the afternoon.
The results can be found on this website and the tournament is running smoothly as all scheduled pool matches will be completed by Tuesday 24th November leaving Wednesday, Thursday and Friday available for the exciting Final Series.
Tournament Director Mr. Joe Asoran said that “I would like to thank all of the teams for their organization and attendance at the tournament. We have been blessed with such enthusiasm from all the province of Papua New Guinea and I would like to wish each team all the very best and to play in the spirit of the game.”
