FIBA Oceania Zone Development Officer (ZDO) Ryan Burns featured on Live PNG TV yesterday afternoon with ONOC Representative Mr. Brian Minikin. The PNG games are receiving excellent Television coverage with many sports including basketball shown throughout the country. Ryan took part in a discussion of the PNG Games with TV Hosts Peter and Ann throughout the 20 minute appearance and was very impressed with the passion, spirit and presentation of the basketball competition and the teams participating.
His appearance also coincided with the televising of a match from the PNG Games Basketball Competition at Murray Barracks which was excellent promotion for basketball as it is one of the most popular sports at the PNG Games.
Ryan said that “The grass roots approach of the PNG games has been wildly successful as it encourages a high level of participation, particularly in team sports such as basketball. It is clear that there is much talent within PNG and these games provide an excellent stepping stone to further elite competition.”
