The game between BITS and GLADSTONE proved to be an easy win for BITS, winning the game by 30 points after a flying start to the match.
It was expected to be a hard fought contest, however it was BITS who came out more desperate, getting first hands on the footy and committed in the contest. The midfield had plenty of space to work and constantly put the Muddies defenders under pressure. The forwards were getting endless opportunity, dominating the opening half and kicking goals at will.
The second half had Gladstone with a completely different attitude take it right up to BITS. The accountability of the midfielders lifted, they started to win their share of the clearances, and were prepared to run both ways. They kicked seven goals to three in the second half, however their poor start never let them back into the contest. John Beirouti was good for BITS with six goals whilst Michael Eales was solid all day for the Muddies in his second game for the club.
PANTHERS provided the upset of the year, beating YEPPOON by 10 points and in the process keeping their slim finals hopes alive.
With the Swans expected to win this one comfortably, it was a hard fought win by the Panthers, holding on in the final quarter after Yeppoon leveled the scores at ¾ time. A win like this would have been unimaginable a month ago, but they now stand equal on points with Gladstone.
The players that showed the way for Panthers were Les Payne and Clinton Evans whilst Shayne Fowler was best for Yeppoon.
In the final game of the round, BROTHERS defeated GLENMORE by 38 points. Whilst the result went as expected, many would have predicted the margin to be greater. The Bulls did well to stay this close to the Brothers side, who are now sitting on top of the table.
However, the margin could have been greater, Brothers kicked 4.12 in the second half which limited the damage. Adam Williams and Michael Rose were amongst the best for Brothers whilst Kristofor Bulman kicked a couple for Glenmore.
