All registered umpires are expected to have attained or be actively working towards their AFL Umpire Level 1 Accreditation. Accreditation is achieved on successfully completing the following:
- Part 1 – Online course. This involves completing the online AFL Umpire Level 1 Accreditation course. The cost of the course is $12, it will take a few hours to complete and can be completed in one or several sessions. Visit www.afl.com.au/umpires/courses for more information.
- Part 2 – Assessment. During the season, a BDJFA approved Umpire Assessor assesses the umpire against an assessment checklist.. This may be arranged through the Umpire's Coach.
On completion of the online course, an electronic copy of the ‘certificate of completion’ must be forwarded to the BDJFA Umpires’ Coach for recording the details into the BDJFA Umpires database.
After successfully completing an Assessment, an Assessor signed copy of the assessment sheet must be forwarded to the BDJFA Umpires’ Coach. Again the details will be recorded in the BDJFA Umpires database. At the same time the Umpire accreditation will be recorded as ‘passed’.
Accreditation is valid until the end of the season, four years from the date recorded on the Umpire Assessment sheet. On expiry of accreditation, renewal is required which should involve completing the online accreditation course again (as a refresher) but must involve another successful assessment report by a BDJFA approved Umpire Assessor.
