Australian Basketball Icon Lauren Jackson to attend 2011 Flood Appeal QBL ALL-STAR GAME
Lauren Jackson, current Seattle Storm superstar in the WNBA and the greatest ever Australian female basketball player will be attending the 2011 Flood Appeal QBL All-Star Game to be held at Chandler Arena, Sleeman Sports Complex on Sunday the 6th of March 2011.
The Men’s and Women’s QBL All-Stars Game features some exciting youth and respected veterans from the Central and Southern Pools of our Senior League, representing teams from Bundaberg in the North to the Gold Coast in the South and Toowoomba in the West. They will be joined by former NBL MVP, two-time NBL Champion, Junior World Championship Gold Medallist and two-time Olympian Sam Mackinnon. Tickets to the event will be sold on the day with the Ticket Office opening at 10:00am before the doors open at 11:00am.
Basketball Queensland CEO Graham Burns said “It is great to see some of our stars of the future and past greats coming together for a good cause in what should be an almighty battle of Central v South”. With Lauren Jackson as special guest, Burns also commented “it will be a once in a lifetime opportunity for many young basketball fans to meet one of Australia’s finest athletes as she comes to show her support for local Queensland Basketball Associations affected by the floods in their recovery efforts”.
Lauren began her professional career at the Australian Institute of Sport, in the WNBL, before moving on to the Canberra Capitals. Currently she is a forward/centre with the Seattle Storm of the WNBA and the Australian National Team the Opals. She has won League Championships in the United States, Australia, and Russia, as well as having a World Championship Gold Medal to her name representing her country in 2006. Having won multiple MVP awards in various leagues and countries, she is widely considered to be the best Australian female basketball player of all-time and one of the best players in the world.
To assist the Queensland Associations badly affected by the recent floods Basketball Queensland invites all fans of the sport to attend the 2011 Flood Appeal QBL ALL STAR GAME on Sunday the 6th of March at The Arena, Sleeman Sports Complex, Chandler. Ticket prices begin at $5.00 a Child, $10.00 an Adult and $20.00 a family with the doors opening at 11:00am. The Women’s Game tips off at 11:30am followed by the Men’s Game at 2:00pm.
All proceeds raised at the event will go to the Basketball Qld Disaster Relief Fund
