Force pumped up for final ambush

However, the shooting guard said the Force team was heading north with plenty of confidence and nothing to lose in Ipswich's first Queensland Basketball League semi-final.

“The girls are really excited,” she said of the match-up against the competition leaders.

“Anything can happen in finals.”

Although Gladstone Power's starting five are Women's National Basketball League players, Marney said that only added to the challenge in front of their home crowd.

“We just can't be intimidated by them,” said Marney, 24.

“We all know Gladstone have something like six WNBL players but we're not going to let that deter us. We've been working on different kinds of defences to try and shake them up a little bit.”

Having lost star player Emma Langford to Australian Universities commitments, the Force will rely heavily on Ezria Parsons tomorrow night.

However, Marney said team unity was the cornerstone of fourth-placed Ipswich's success this season.

“There's no pressure on us,” she said, having played in the Ipswich side which reached the state league quarter-finals last season and played in a 2006 Southern Cross final series in Bundaberg.

“We need to be on the same page and work together. We'll need a lot of talk.”

Ipswich Force beat Northside Wizards 80-54 in last weekend's quarter-final to improve on an already successful season.

Gladstone are chasing three state league titles in a row.

If the Force can ambush Gladstone, they will meet the winner of tomorrow night's second semi-final between Mackay and Bundaberg.

That grand final is in Gladstone on Saturday night.
