Basketball on move in Mackay

MACKAY Basketball has taken another step in its aim to establish itself as the premier sport in Mackay.

It was announced earlier this week that Mackay Basketball would receive $300,000 to upgrade existing player and officials amenities at Candlestick Park as part of the Bligh Government's $20 million Sport and Recreation Infrastructure funding.

The announcement was welcomed by Mackay Basketball general manager Joel Khalu.

"This is all part of our facility upgrades at the moment that we're really working hard on trying to get done," he said.

"This is definitely a necessity for us. It's no secret that our facilities, our changerooms and that, aren't up to par.

"It also contributes to us not being able to have state and national championships here."

Khalu said an upgrade of these facilities would definitely put Mackay Basketball back on the map for those kind of events.
